Hi, I’m Jan, and I’m on a lifelong journey of love and learning with animals, especially dogs. These blog posts are a reflection of my passion for understanding and sharing the unique bond we share with our furry friends, focusing on how they think and perceive the world around them.
Growing up, my parents allowed me to have a variety of pets, from horses to snakes. These experiences laid the foundation for my deep connection with animals. Breeding dogs, cats, and horses, particularly the Rough Coat Collies and German Shepherds of my childhood, provided me with invaluable insights into their behavior and communication.
One standout companion from my childhood was Tina, a Collie who taught me so much. Tina’s protective nature and her varied barks became my window into the canine mind. Observing her interactions with her puppies, especially Lassie, taught me about discipline, play, and the intricate dynamics of the mother-offspring relationship.
I stress the importance of understanding a dog’s innate instincts, often tied to their breed. In today’s urban settings, many dogs face boredom and frustration due to a lack of tasks that cater to their natural needs. My approach to training revolves around engaging a dog’s intellect, not to make them think like humans, but to appreciate their unique perspectives and respond accordingly.
Join me in this journey of understanding, love, and companionship with our canine angels.
